Don't Keep Your Photos All Bottled Up! Make Scrapbook Pages with Them!

I was scrolling through Facebook one day and saw a post from one of my "country cousins" showing off all the green beans she and he daughters had harvested and then put into canning bottles in what I'm sure was a long, hard, steam-filled day.

And I thought to myself, "Hey Sean, what about making a digital card kit with a canning theme?"

So that's what I did, with this new kit called Bottled Up.

And here's a sample page I made from my cousin's photos that I sent along to her.

When I get an idea for a kit, I search online for graphic packs that I can commercially license (buy from the artist or designer and then modify and sell as my own), which it what I did with these graphics. Then I add my own titles or wording to the graphics when I make them into the card sizes I want to include in the kit. I tend to do simple borders in matching colors with artwork in the corners for journaling cards, and larger artwork for filler cards.

Once I have a few basic ideas for the cards themselves, I work to make them as versatile as possible and make the same card over in multiple size and orientations. You never know what size pocket you'll have space for on your page for a journaling or filler card, and I hate it when I find the perfect card in a PL app card kit, but it doesn't come in the pocket size I need it to. So I try to make all my cards fit multiple pocket sizes, even if I have to recreate them and adjust the artwork a bit to do so.

Here's a few more examples of the kinds of cards available in this kit. I included some blue and black speckled filler cards that reminded me of the canning pots we used at our house growing up. Plus I love the graphic of the "bottle lifter" tool that I remember using growing up to pull the hot bottles of peaches out of the water when helping my mom. :)

I'll be creating more kits in the coming weeks, so check back here for more photos or the kits, cards, and pages I make with the kits! And be sure to check out my shop where all my cards kits can be found!

Cowabunga Dude!

In an effort to at least mentally leave the snow and ice that is currently outside my window, I created a new summery, surfer-inspired card kit with bright summer colors of red, blue, yellow, and green.

And I'm calling this kit, Cowabunga!

There are four different color combinations for both the male and female surfers and their boards on the cards, plus some filler cards and journal cards to match. And solids of the four main colors as well.

Here's a few page samples using some of the cards from this kit:

On this page, the top left pocket is actually designed for a photo and doesn't have the option to pull in a card (if using an official PL card kit). But since bringing non-PL cards into a page is done as if everything is a photo, it worked perfectly to do so. I did want to have the surfer girl image on the left side of the card, though, so I used the Pic-Tap-Go option with in the PL app to make a mirror image of the card to get her on the left.

For the page above, I left the top right and bottom left pockets of this page template (Big Shot 20) empty. Then because I had chosen white as my page background color, when I exported the page, those empty pockets filled in with white. The whole page has a seamless look to it, because I also have the drop shadow feature in the PL app turned off.

This last page was made by my friend Jessica Mitchell, since I honestly have never been surfing and so didn't have any pictures of my own to scrapbook with, and she helped me out with some photos from her Hawaii trip! Here she used only the filler cards from the kit for her page, and it worked out really well I must say.

I'll be creating more kits in the coming weeks, so check back here for more photos or the kits, cards, and pages I make with the kits! And be sure to check out my shop where all my cards kits can be found!

Who’s Got Camping Photos to Scrapbook?

I’m the first to admit I’m not very outdoorsy, but on the odd occasion I do make it into the Great Outdoors, I try and take a few pictures to prove it happened!

So, that necessitated me making a card kit specifically for that purpose. And I’m calling it Campout.

This card kit has an fun color scheme that reminds me of a campfire in the mountains of Utah. And there’s over 60 cards in 3x4, 4x4, and 4x6 sizes. There’s journal cards, filler cards, and solids too!

Here’s a couple of pages I made with this kit:

I really like the striped card in the page above, with the stitching down one side. I journaled on it here, but it would make a cool filler card as well.

This second page has a “fill in the blank” card that I used to add the Where, When, and How Long info about the trip.

There’s lots to choose from in this kit, so if you’ve got any outdoorsy, camping, hiking, fishing, four-wheeling, RVing, or nature photos that need documented, consider this kit!

I'll be creating more kits in the coming weeks, so check back here for more photos or the kits, cards, and pages I make with the kits! And be sure to check out my shop where all my cards kits can be found!

Another 4-3-2-1 Journaling Kit!

I'm back again with another journaling kit, this one themed to travel (which I realize a lot of us AREN'T doing these days)....but there's hope for the future--and surely there are some vacation photos you still haven't scrapbooked yet that you could use these on!

As a reminder, the 4-3-2-1 idea for my journaling cards is this:

4 Designs

3 Sizes

2 Bucks

1 Theme

And this kit's is called 4-3-2-1 PASSPORT

Each of the card designs comes in horizontal and vertical orientations and features a border with a different icon: a plane/plane ticket, a passport booklet, a hotel, and a suitcase. I've even included a bonus filler card with a fun quote and iconic travel landmarks.

Here's some pages I made where you can see the different cards and sizes in action! :)

A 3x4 vertical card used here.
